December 2007 - The new European Qualifications Framework (EQF) will act
as a translation device between national qualifications systems in Europe.
This will help employers and educational establishments across the
Continent compare and better understand the qualifications presented by
individuals. The core of the EQF system is its eight reference levels,
covering the span from basic to the highest-level qualifications.

Iona Technologies Connects Belgian Schools
|
Dublin (IE), December 2007 - More than 3,000 schools throughout Belgium
will be using Irish software firm Iona’s open source technology to deploy
a centralised student-registration system after being chosen by the
Belgian Ministry for Education. Iona will be providing distributed
service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure in the form of its FUSE
ESB (Enterprise Service Bus), which will be integrated with various
applications and databases to provide real-time registration for over one
million students.

last two years, seven European organisations have been working on the
quality of eLearning targeted to SMEs. Under the coordination of CECOA,
the Portuguese Vocational Training Centre for the Trade and Service
Industry, the partnership developed products targeted at European SME
entrepreneurs, training providers, training consultants, and social
partners. In a final conference in Lisbon, the project findings were

educational programme dedicated to students aged between nine and eighteen
years. Think.com is a free web-based environment for primary and secondary
students and teachers and is designed to assist schools with the
implementation and use of state-of-the-art technology for educational
purposes. At the end of November, 1,600 teachers across the country,
including all areas of specialization, attended training courses on using

Cisco® and Giunti Labs to create a highly innovative learning environment
that blends mobile learning and virtual-learning-worlds technologies. The
University wanted to help give its Serious Games Institute (SGI) a
technology platform on which to build a digital model of the campus
building so that students’ movements in both the real building and its
virtual reconstruction trigger location-based access to learning content
and experiences. This means that content can be pushed to students by the
