proved unfounded, with a total of 2,082 registered participants from 91
countries gathering at ONLINE EDUCA 2008 in Berlin to discuss the latest
developments of eLearning. The conference agenda focused on 'Generation
Y', Web 2.0, serious games, and open educational resources, as well as on
ICT-based learning in the corporate sector, schools, and universities.

Prominent Keynote Speaker Impresses the Audience |
Berlin (GER), December 2008 - Michael Wesch is a cultural anthropologist
at Kansas State University. His work explores the impact of new media on
human interaction, and his videos on technology, education, and
information have made him famous. At ONLINE EDUCA Berlin, an international
audience listened to him intently, and in his keynote, he mixed his views
on the impact of social media and digital technology on global society
with the fascinating experience he gained interacting with the indigenous
culture in the rain forest of Papua New Guinea.

Serious Games: Fun Is a Good Motivator |
Berlin, December 2008 – Gaming is being taken seriously by teachers and
trainers all over the globe. Several panels during ONLINE EDUCA Berlin
dealt with innovative games for eLearning. Serious gaming is often
expensive to produce, but there are exceptions that demonstrate how a good
idea or storyline can forge the foundation of a game that is fascinating
and useful learning tool.

Not Such New News for Parts of the Future |
Berlin (GER), December 2008 – Chaired by Louisa Dale of JISC (UK), one of
the sessions at ONLINE EDUCA Berlin focused on Innovative Learning Design.
With "a swarm of people" waiting outside commented Dale, the session got
off to a promising start, with its offer of insights into the future of
technologies and processes of learning, collaboration and innovation. The
products and concepts presented, however, turned out to be rather well
known.

The First MEDEA Award Goes to Sweden |

officer, received the MEDEA Award 2008 for the multimedia program Rättegångsskolan på webben/Court Introduction during
the organization’s ceremony event. It was the first time that the MEDEA
Award - a bronze statuette - was awarded. The special event took place in
parallel to the ONLINE EDUCA Berlin Conference.
