Designing Digital Transformation – 50 Years of Internet
Potsdam (GER), July 2019 – Fifty years after the first successful data transmission between computers at two American universities on 29 October 1969, more than four billion people have access to the internet. To mark this occasion, the Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI) is delighted to extend an invitation to the conference "Designing Digital Transformation – 50 Years of Internet", 28-30 October 2019. This conference will also be a celebration of HPI’s own twentieth anniversary.
HPI will be welcoming internet pioneers, scientists, and representatives from leading IT companies, who will speak about the history and development of the internet. The following is a selection of the invited speakers:
- Prof. Vinton Cerf per video message from UCLA, one of the four universities where the ARPA Net was initiated
- Warren East, CEO of Rolls Royce
- Dr. Jürgen Müller, CTO and Board Member of SAP
- Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE
- Christiane Woopen, Head of the European Ethics Council
- Prof. Stefanie Müller, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The conference will be an opportunity to discuss the risks and new challenges that accompany the digital transformation and the values that an "internet society" should seek to follow.
