Final Call for Global MOOC Survey
Heerlen (NL), April 2017 - The first Global Survey on the Quality of MOOCs is coming to an end: Several hundred people have already contributed, but all opinions are needed. Therefore, the MOOQ Alliance kindly requests all MOOC learners, designers, and facilitators to complete the Global MOOC Survey today.
"We want to improve future MOOCs for better online learning for all", explains Christian M. Stracke from the Open University of the Netherlands, MOOQ coordinator and ICDE Chair in OER. The main long-term goal of MOOQ is the improvement of future MOOCs by developing quality indicators and tools. MOOQ is the European Alliance for the quality of massive open online courses, called MOOCs. The survey will foster this quality through the collection of design and learning experiences and the subsequent analysis and discussion. Leading international associations and institutions - including four United Nations' organizations - are supporting the survey.
The Global MOOC Survey and its objectives and constructs are highly welcomed by the MOOC community worldwide. Broad interest was expressed and positive feedback given during the discussions at the interactive workshop at the International Conference Open Education Global 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa on 09 March. The series of interactive workshops on the Global MOOC Survey started at the EC-TEL Conference 2016 in Lyon and will continue during the next leading European and international conferences and events. All findings from the Global MOOC Survey will be published and shared openly and freely to facilitate a debate with all MOOC stakeholders worldwide.
The importance of the first Global MOOC Survey is highlighted by its having received broad recognition and backing from foremost international associations and institutions. These include the International Council for Distance and Open Education (ICDE); Open Education Consortium (OEC); International Community for Open Research and Education (ICORE); Commonwealth of Learning (COL); European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU); European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN); European Association of Technology-Enhanced Learning (EATEL); Contact North (CN); and many more.
The Global MOOC Survey addresses three main target groups: MOOC learners, MOOC designers, and MOOC facilitators. It is organized by the European MOOQ Alliance for the quality of MOOCs to develop a Quality Reference Framework with quality indicators and tools. They will be designed and discussed in close collaboration with all interested international stakeholders to support MOOC designers.
"The survey results will help to better adapt future MOOC design to the demands of MOOC learners", emphasises Christian M. Stracke from the Open University of the Netherlands and ICDE Chair in OER. "Please take twenty minutes to contribute your personal views and experiences for a full image."
MOOQ encourages all interested parties to complete the Global MOOC Survey, which closes in April 2017. This is a final call and the last chance for all MOOC learners, designers, and facilitators to contribute their personal opinions and experiences.
