Industry's First SCORM-Conformant 3D Serious Games

London (UK), September 2007 - LINE Communications, a leading provider of learning and communications solutions, and Caspian Learning, a pioneer of 3D learning-based games applications, have announced a partnership to produce and distribute the industry's first SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) conformant 3D serious games for learning management systems in the corporate training, government, and military sectors.

Until now, it has been extremely difficult to track user activity within 3D-games environments to industry standards. As such, training departments have been unable to monitor many learning improvements through this approach. LINE worked closely with Caspian Learning to produce the industry's first SCORM-conformant 3D serious games, which feed user data and activity results to learning management systems (LMSs) that conform to SCORM v1.2 and 2004.

The LINE and Caspian Learning partnership will, for the first time, allow organisations to deploy real 3D serious games as a core component to their training programme and expect the same user feedback data they would receive with any SCORM-conformant eLearning programme.

The partnership operates at both the commercial and technical levels. On the business side, this makes joint co-marketing of products and services into specific market sectors possible. The technical partnership sees the two firms collaborating to deliver software solutions that meet their clients' needs. Moreover, the partners will share their expertise in learning design to create immersive gaming environments that add value and produce measurable results.

Graeme Duncan, Chief Operating Officer of Caspian Learning says, "The partnership is instrumental for Caspian Learning as it enables us to fuse robust games-based learning technology and methodology with the broad range of blended learning offerings from LINE. It's great to be delivering an industry first and removing the barriers associated with using 3D-games-based learning".

Piers Lea, LINE's CEO, says, "LINE has been looking for some time at incorporating serious games into our offering. Caspian Learning's software engine is undoubtedly the best on the market. It has the combined advantage of being well thought through, flexible, and affordable. I'm impressed with their team's commitment to high quality service and delivery".

Caspian Learning's engine Thinking Worlds™ allows the creation of authentic problem- solving experiences within engaging 3D worlds. These experiences add context, improved motivation, and challenge, while allowing safe failure and increasing the personalisation of the learning.
