Thales Launches Video-Based eLearning
Ivry-sur-Seine (F), January 2015 - Thales has launched a video-based eLearning programme with UbiCast to record and share training sessions, achieving production efficiencies and significant savings.
In early 2015, Thales, a leader in electronics for aerospace, defense, and IT, launched a set of video-based eLearning programs. The organization uses a company-wide learning-management system in which the new videos are integrated to form full training modules.
Video content is nothing new to Thales: the company has been creating eLearning videos for years. But the recent demand from various departments to rapidly create ad-hoc content prompted the learning- management team to seek an easy-to-use solution.
After an initial trial in 2014, the company recently deployed multiple UbiCast systems to record on-site training sessions and equipped dedicated recording rooms that work on a "self-service" basis.
The goals were to capitalise on existing training sessions by recording and digitizing them to form a knowledge base and to offer the various departments the ability to autonomously create high-quality content that immediately integrated with existing workflows.
More than creating standard video, UbiCast solutions enable Thales to produce rich-media video that is indexed for easy navigation to key segments, searchable for keywords, and delivered through an interactive player. And all of this is done automatically by UbiCast technology.
Trainers are given the opportunity to easily create content that would have been to costly to produce manually, and the learner is empowered to access information from anywhere, at any time, in the form of engaging video.
In less than a year, Thales created 65 rich-media video recordings, was able to share them with employees on average within 24 hours - versus 15 days previously, due to postproduction - and saved over £150,000 on manual labour.
Mourad Larab, Mobile Learning Manager at Thales France said, "UbiCast's solution is perfectly adapted to our two requirements: to produce high-quality content and to do so on our own. Moreover, the UbiCast team guided us throughout the solution's deployment."
UbiCast is at stand 122 at the upcoming Learning Technologies exhibition, 28-29 January 2015, at Olympia Central, London.
