Brussels (BE), April 2013 - The main theme for the 2013 edition of the Media & Learning conference is “Media Education and Literacy: Equipping Learners for Open, Creative Learning Futures”. This theme will be at the heart of the conference programme, which is aimed at exploring the role of creativity and innovation in education and training against the backdrop of dramatic change in how, where, and what learners learn.
This fourth annual Media & Learning Conference, taking place on 12-13 December 2013, is aimed at policy makers, service providers, and practitioners and will build on the success of previous Media & Learning Conferences - which have attracted almost 300 people from all over Europe with a packed programme of talks, discussions, and demonstrations.
Media & Learning 2013 is being organised in collaboration with the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training and the European Commission Directorate-General for Education and Culture and will take place in the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training Headquarters in Brussels. The programme will include inspirational talks, broad-ranging discussions, specialist master classes, and practical demos, as well as the annual ceremony for the MEDEA Awards.
Ten core themes have been chosen that will be used to underpin the programme:
- e-safety: putting in place effective classroom practices that protect and empower the learner
- media-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teaching
- creating and curating open educational-media resources to be used and shared by everyone
- putting in place effective media-literacy schemes in collaboration with broadcasters
- maximising the use of media by making it second nature for teachers
- turning classrooms into creative learning spaces for all types of learners
- moving beyond recording to flexible and effective use of lecture capture - flipping the classroom to make the best use of limited educational resources
- film and image education as a core competence for today’s learner
- improving learning opportunities through the use of serious games
- visual interactive interfaces helping learners to analyse big data and learn with it.
If you would like to submit a proposal to give a presentation, the closing date for submissions is 01 June 2013.
