Future of Learning explored at Learning Technologies Asia
Singapore (SGP), November 2017 - Learning Technologies Asia, a new and major exhibition and conference for learning-and-development professionals, marks its successful inaugural edition at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, attracting circa 2,000 L&D professionals from across the region.
A sister event of Learning Technologies in the UK and incorporating LEARNTech Asia, Learning Technologies Asia presented a brilliant showcase comprising a thought-leadership conference on the future of workplace learning with four concurrent tracks to suit different needs; an exhibition of 40 leading learning and development providers; and 40 free seminar sessions. The event was opened with an address by Mind Maps inventor, Tony Buzan. A recognised author and expert on memory, creativity, and the workings of the brain, Tony Buzan introduced the conference to techniques for harnessing the natural creativity of the human mind.
Chaired by Donald H Taylor, the conference featured a host of leading minds from the learning and development industry, including Anand Ratnam, APAC University of Technology and Innovation; Julian Stodd, author on the Social Age; David Kelly, eLearning Guild; Jane Lai, OCBC Bank; and learn-tech futurist Steve Wheeler.
Chairman Donald H Taylor commented, "For me, an event can be counted a success if the delegates walk away with both a big picture view of the field of learning and practical next steps to take when they're back in the workplace. From my conversations with attendees, I'm delighted to say that we've achieved both of these. That's down to great keynotes like Steve Wheeler and Tony Buzan, strong panel sessions, and our speakers, who focused on providing real, practical value for our delegates."
The exhibition floor was buzzing with excitement from L&D professionals, who found the show an excellent platform to learn, share, and network amongst their peers.
Suresh Krishnasamy, Learning Designer at Singapore Institute of Technology, said, "Our organisation is particularly interested in eLearning content, and the seminars we attended gave us good insights. We also had the opportunity to make new contacts with the vendors."
Impressed with the high-quality content of the seminars, Chiew Ghim Ong, Workforce Development Senior Engineer at Micron Semiconductor enthused, "The ideas shared at the seminars are very interesting, and the videos presented helped me gain a lot of insights. We would like the seminar sessions to be longer! It is a great L&D event."
Vice Chairman of Senior HR Forum, Leo Ma, also had a productive time at Learning Technologies Asia, "The conference content is very informative and full of the latest news and discussions in the industry. It brings about inspiration on the future of learning and development."
The second day opened with a packed conference session led by learn-tech futurist Steve Wheeler. Other highly anticipated highlights of the second day included a presentation by Laura Overton, CEO at Towards Maturity. She spoke about improved work performance through innovative learning and establishing an effective technology-enabled learning culture.
Outside in the exhibition hall, the aisles were also bustling from open till close. Key exhibitors and sponsors included Cornerstone, Kydon, Litmos, Saba, Totara, Kineo, Docebo, Androgogic, and many more.
It's their first foray into the APAC market for many of the exhibitors, and their feedback on the level of interest and delegate quality was positive.
Amanda Morgan, Marketing Manager from GoAnimate observed, "We had a very busy show, meeting people throughout the day, and I would say this is the exact target audience we were looking forward to meet. It's GoAnimate's first time exhibiting in Asia, and there have been a lot of interesting leads across the APAC region comprising big companies and enterprises interested in using GoAnimate. The seminars helped to garner interest and drive traffic to our booth as well."
Ashley Sinclair, Senior Marketing Manager at Litmos by ClallidusCloud had a fruitful participation and opined, "We definitely have visitors who are at the buying stage and are interested in LMS and eLearning. There is a real appetite to learn, and a lot of the delegates are very inquisitive about the kind of offerings we have for the Asian market and to know what's new and different in learning technologies and understand how the field is evolving and changing."
