Winner at the International eLearning Association Awards
New York, NY (USA), August 2020 - Savv-e is proud to have partnered with the Royal Life Saving (RLS) in the work that went into being named winners at the 2020 International eLearning Association (IELA) awards in the Blended Learning-Business Division category.
The eLearning course sought to transform RLS's current Pool Lifeguard course from pre-course workbooks and face-to-face training to a more engaging and memorable experience for the learner by using a blended delivery solution. Savv-e was commissioned to transform the pre-course material into a 7x15-minute module suite covering the principal components of the course, and thereby enable greater time spent on the practical elements of the role, such as aquatic rescue and CPR.
Shaun Jackson, National Manager, Training and Workforce Development at RLS commented, "Royal Life Saving is delighted to have won this award. We are committed to the highest standards of safety in aquatic centres, and pool lifeguard training is critical to that. We're always looking for innovative ways to deliver engaging and interactive safety focused learning. Our partnership with Savv-e has allowed us to produce feature-rich multimedia course content that combines critical skills learning with expert design and functionality."
The suite of modules was framed around a situation-decision-consequence model due to the rapid decision-making nature of lifeguarding. Following the completion of the blended learning modules, the learner completes a two-day face-to-face training session that covers what was taught in the eLearning while focusing on practical application. Using live and video demonstrations exhibiting real-life situations, learners develop and practice their skills in responding to rescue and emergency care scenarios.
The new pre-course material for the Pool Lifeguard course was aimed to be a catalyst for a fresh and more contemporary approach to training for RLS.
The suite of modules is fully accessible, able to be accessed across multiple browsers and platforms, and compliant with SCORM 1.2.
The digital blended learning modules have been widely accepted by the executive team at RLS and the learners themselves. The overall adoption has resulted in 2000 new participants within NSW, WA, Tasmania, and the ACT since its release - representing significant growth in the programs in these states. These results indicate increased uptake, and learners are engaging with the program in a more cost-effective and efficient way. New lifeguards have immediate access to the learning, instead of waiting for the courseware to be mailed out.
Savv-e is pleased with the outcome of the adoption of the digital blended learning by RLS and is proud to be the recipient of an award at the IELA. We look forward to working with Royal Life Saving again.
