New Learning Cultures: How Do We Learn?
Lisbon (P), April 2008 - More than 200 contributions have been submitted for the EDEN Annual Conference, 2008 on the 11th - 14th of June, 2008. The host, Universidade Aberta, the Portuguese Open University will share the celebration of their twentieth anniversary with European academic and professional practitioners and in particular, with the EDEN community.
The venue of the Conference will be the magnificent Belém Cultural Centre on the Tagus River, next to the Tower of Belém and the Historical Jeronimos Monastery. The event will address the significance and impact of cultural issues in distance and eLearning development in Europe and beyond.
Cultural understanding, efficiency and quality go hand in hand
Cultural understanding in eLearning means gaining knowledge from other cultures and learning design solutions. The intercultural issue is understood as the pooling and sharing of experience of the successful design and implementation of learning in diverse environments, where we can learn from each other.
Introducing and embedding learning into every human activity is high on the agenda. The holistic approach in distance and eLearning requires deep understanding: the ability to compare, understand and integrate. A well-understood intercultural approach is instrumental in re-structuring the educational enterprise and exploring new development scenarios.
The year 2008 will be the year of intercultural dialogue, offering the opportunity to put the issue of learning cultures as the focus of the EDEN Conference.
