Red Cross Offering Pandemic Preparedness Course Online
Statesville, NC (USA), May 2009 - As reports of cases of swine flu continue to grow, many people in the US are taking measures to ensure they are protected. The American Red Cross Greater Carolinas Chapter is offering online courses in Pandemic Preparedness.
Two years ago, the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross developed an online Pandemic Preparedness course. By taking this course, community members can learn how to prevent the spread of disease, how to be ready for emergencies related to a pandemic, and how to care for someone who is sick.
The course is now being offered at a discounted rate of $10 for anyone interested in learning how they can keep themselves and their families safe should this situation worsen. "We understand that accessibility to information in a time like this is important", said Pamela Jefsen, CEO of the Greater Carolinas Chapter. "At the Red Cross, we make sure our communities have the information they need to be prepared."
In addition to offering the course, the American Red Cross is also:
- Monitoring the developing situation with this new strain of human swine flu and is in close contact with federal and state officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Homeland Security;
- Encouraging families, businesses, and organizations to review and update their preparedness plans;
- Encouraging people to follow common-sense basic public-health practices, such as covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, frequent hand-washing, visiting a doctor for flu-like symptoms, and staying home when sick;
- Working with government officials on the swine flu issue and standing ready to help as appropriate. The American Red Cross is committed to maintaining the blood supply for the public, to educating the public on preparedness and safety, and to ensuring that we can continue to provide disaster services to those in need.
