Xyleme Partners with Chicago Police Department

Boulder, CO (USA), July 2010 - Mark Hellinger, Xyleme's President and CEO, made a presentation with Sgt Joseph Del Pilar of the Chicago Police Department at the eLearning Guild's mLearnCon conference in San Diego last month. The talk highlighted a mobile performance solution to deliver relevant and personalized information to Chicago police officers' mobile devices at the point of performance.

Officers and civil employees in the city of Chicago depend on standard operating procedures or directives to inform them how to properly handle circumstances ranging from patrolling the streets or responding to an emergency situation to managing civic affairs.

The Chicago Police Department has changed its delivery platform for the frequently updated directives content from web-based computers to smartphones. It now relies on Xyleme LCMS to leverage a single source of XML content for the delivery of up-to-date and personalized directives and other information at the moment of need based on the situation at hand and the officer's rank.

The mLearnCon session focused on:

  1. How moving to single-source publishing for mobile delivery can significantly reduce costs and improve time to market.
  2. How mobile performance support enhances formal instruction and improves workplace performance.
  3. How to structure and enhance existing content for mobile delivery.
  4. Why XML is critical for sharing content across multiple delivery modalities and ensuring the integrity of that content.
