How AI Is Giving Storytelling a Boost
Freiburg/Karlsruhe, May 2024 - Jennifer Fritz is an expert in the field of knowledge transfer through storytelling. She focuses on teaching educators how to use storytelling to make complex and dry learning content engaging and fun for all ages. As part of the LEARNTEC congress, she will be holding a workshop on "Storytelling with the Help of AI" on 04 June 2024 from 11:30.
"We all tell stories all day long. Studies show that we spend around 65% of our day telling stories," explains Jennifer Fritz. "This is because our brain stores information in a certain form and recalls it in this form. This form is very close to the 'story pattern' and is based on three pillars: actions, consequences, and people. Accordingly, it is easy for our brain to recall this. Thus storytelling ties in with the realities of life."
Jennifer Fritz has gained experience in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning, particularly in relation to AI-based learning support. She is familiar with the development and application of AI models such as ChatGPT.
When asked whether AI fundamentally changes the storytelling process, she replied, "AI changes the process significantly in one respect: You now have an almost infinite number of assistants who can help with various tasks in a targeted manner. You also always have a sparring partner and continuity checker. AI can take on many roles in the process and thus make our stories better. I would say that the process doesn't necessarily change; it is expanded. Much more becomes possible in the same working time."
Equally relevant is the way in which AI supports the communication of emotions through storytelling. Fritz contends, "AI can imitate any emotion, but not understand it, at least not yet. However, if you need inspiration on how a certain emotion might sound, or which songs on a writing playlist go with a certain feeling, it can provide support here, too."
The workshop "Storytelling with the Help of AI" takes place in conference room K8/9, 04 June, 11.30 - 13.00 and will cover topics such as creative idea development, character development, scenario creation, suitable gamification elements, and questionnaires.
