LLL in the 21st Century: Dimensions of Change
Brussels (BE), July 2012 - The VISIR project (Vision, Scenarios, Insights and Recommendations) is an initiative of seven European networks and two renowned research institutions. It uses stakeholder consultations to develop a vision on how ICT can help make lifelong learning a reality.
The use of ICT for learning in Europe is widespread. Yet its impact as a driver of change for our economies and societies is still missing.
VISIR is working on a bottom-up vision, gathering experts' views and getting systematic contributions from professionals and learning communities. The objective of the VISIR Stakeholders' Consultations is to involve professionals, practitioners, decision makers, students, and representatives of civil society in building on their opinion and experience toward the development of a common vision on how ICT can contribute to helping lifelong learning realise its potential.
Four consultations will be launched in the next two years to achieve this, and individuals are now invited to participate in the first one. The quest is to ascertain what the most relevant factors of change are and how they affect LLL It only takes a few minutes to reflect on the consultation's fourteen, somewhat provocative and tricky statements.
The statements were elaborated following a brainstorming seminar in Bologna in May 2012 that featured the participation of experts from all parts of Europe. The convocation analysed the domains of change, the polarities and tensions, and the main lines of evolution. Furthermore, the attendees sought to outline future scenarios from here till 2020.
The VISIR Stakeholders consultation has already attracted the interest of hundreds of people who have shared their visions about lifelong learning in the 21st century. The event continues until 18 July, and interested individuals are urged to share their views and visions
The first issue of the Vision report will be published in October 2012.
