7 Mindsets Publishes New White Paper
Roswell, GA (USA), April 2021 - Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, social emotional learning (SEL) has been vital to supporting students' wellbeing and fostering their success in school. In a new white paper, 7 Mindsets reveals how K-12 districts can help teachers create an even greater impact on the social emotional wellness of their students and school culture by addressing their own social emotional health first. The paper, "Investing in Educators' Social Emotional Wellness Fosters Student Success and Improves School Culture," is available for free to educators at the website.
"A big takeaway in working with schools and districts this year is how fatigued teachers and staff are," said 7 Mindset's Director of Education Chelsea Buchanan. "Teachers are worried and anxious, and they're feeling many of the same emotions as their students. Yet, teachers aren't always able to recognize their own vulnerabilities. Their brains are so wired to think about their students' needs that it's a little uncomfortable for them to talk about what they need."
Sharing research and insights from educators, the white paper discusses the importance and value of SEL for students as well as teachers. It explores how promoting teacher wellbeing and mental health reduces stress and job-related anxieties. It also shares lessons learned from school districts that are making it a priority for teachers to invest in their own social emotional health.
"The COVID pandemic is a catalyst that has allowed administrators to see how important teachers' social emotional health is," said Buchanan. "When districts are intentional about investing in teacher SEL, they can better support teacher wellness. This not only helps teachers feel happy and safe, but it helps promote healthy school environments that meet the needs of all learners."
