Best Practice Manual Available

Roosbeck (B), December 2006 - Based on the experiences gathered during Citizen E, an EU-funded project to improve teachers' ICT skills, the project partners have written a Best Practice Manual available for download now.

The manual is intended as a guideline for European and national training institutions interested in setting up school twinning activities. It includes recommendations as well as concrete examples of school twinning activities carried out during the project lifetime.

Citizen E was part of the European Commission's Minerva Program, which ran from October 2004 till September 2006. Its objectives were to improve teachers' ICT skills as well as their intercultural communication skills and to develop and share useful teaching materials related to European citizenship. During its lifetime, the project revolved around a commonly used online platform aimed at European teachers involving almost 1500 teachers and students in Italy, Poland, Ireland, and Belgium.

One of the key activities of the project was to disseminate best practice regarding eLearning activities. The approach taken by the project consortium is described in the first part of the manual, providing comprehensive background information about the partners and the project.

In its second part, the manual goes into some detail on how to set up twinning activities from the initial stage of school identification and partner search to the matching of schools and the practice of supporting operational twinning arrangements. An extensive list of recommendations is provided based on the partners' own experiences.

The third chapter introduces example projects and presents the results of the twinning activities that took place during Citizen E. This chapter is intended to spark inspiration by offering practical ideas on how to set up projects linked to the teaching of European citizenship and the use of ICT for the interested reader.
