e-Learning for Kids Completes Mathworld Curriculum
Ardmore, PA, (USA)/ Hilversum (NL), October 2013 - The e-Learning for Kids Foundation (EFK), a global 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that provides free computer-based learning courses for children between the ages of five and twelve, is thrilled to announce the launch of its "Mathworld" curriculum! Now available are 336 eLessons in this new math curriculum.
For every grade level, there are 48 lessons developed in groups of six lessons for eight world continents – the seven known continents - and "Phantasia" as the eighth.
As you learn, you can visit a sheep farm, an igloo, the Eiffel Tower, an English bus, an African village, an Italian restaurant, and many more global places. And a new website, which hosts this new curriculum, is also now available!
A BIG thanks to our talented team of volunteer instructional designers and course developers, the eLearning for Kids project-management team and, of course, to our various sponsors, who have made this possible. Our unique, integrated process for course development continues to guarantee the quality of every lesson, consistency for the children taking the eLessons, and an effective and efficient process for our volunteers.
Nick Van Dam PhD., founder and chairman of EFK, had the vision to recognize the need for this curriculum, as well as to tie it to the IB standards, a forward-thinking and recognized leader in international education. Speaking on the occasion, Nick commented, "Mathworld is our first completed curriculum based on the IB Standards. This engaging curriculum of 336 lessons provides great opportunities for children around the world to build or enhance their math skills, which are critical for being successful in the 21st century. It is very exciting that kids can enjoy learning math through our high-quality e-Lessons."
The Mathworld curriculum will substantially extend the current offerings of 300+ basic skills eLessons that the foundation offers via its learning portal (or via a download link for when there is no Internet available or too slow/expensive). And just as with the other EFK courses, they are provided free of charge to kids, teachers, and parents around the globe.
How can the Mathworld courseware be used? Depending on the proficiency level of a child in math, as well as the availability and quality of education, the curriculum can be used to
- support an existing classroom curriculum
- provide additional practice
- supplement an existing curriculum
- support homeschooling
Since 2005, more than seven million children in over 140 countries have benefitted from eLessons provided by eLearning for Kids. How can you support the foundation? Please "like" us on Facebook and make a tax-deductible donation on our EFK website! If you are an instructional designer, you can volunteer to help us build storyboards for our next project already in progress – Scienceworld.
