The IELA Announces a Partner Opportunity
New York, NY (USA), May 2017 - The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Publications Board is seeking nominations for an editor-in-chief (EiC) or co-editors-in-chief for eLearn Magazine, ACM’s web-only publication serving the field of online education and training. ACM is the premier organization in the computing sciences and has representation in a variety of computing areas. eLearn Magazine, an exclusively online publication, represents the intersection of research and practice in the eLearning area.
Established in 2001, this freely available magazine has built a strong following and reputation for its high-quality editorial content from many of the leading lights in the field. Its website offers a community hub for eLearning professionals, providing a wealth of public forums for the free exchange of ideas. eLearn’s targeted readership includes both providers and consumers of online learning.
The ACM is searching for a dynamic and reputable individual or individuals with an active interest in education technology innovation who can help steer the publication forward.
The EiC has editorial oversight, promotes the publication to the community at large, establishes a circle of influential contributors, and works closely with the magazine’s editorial board. Other responsibilities include submission reviews, developing a strategy to coalesce the academic and practitioner communities, and deciding upon the general direction of the publication.
The EiC will work with the editorial board to determine the topics the magazine should be covering and will rely on the board to review unsolicited articles. The EiC should have an extensive network that can be tapped to help promote the publication and identify potential writers, as well as to invite influential people to contribute in novel ways.
The EiC search is open to applicants worldwide. Qualified candidates should be comfortable with social media, have strong writing skills, and be genuinely interested in the intersection of learning and technology. You must have a minimum of five years professional experience in distance learning and education and/or online training and development.
Nominations for the post of eLearn’s EiC, including self-nominations, are invited for a three-year term. The deadline for submissions is 19 May 2017; the editorship will commence 01 July 2017. The EiC appointment may only be renewed once. This is an entirely voluntary position, but ACM will provide administrative support.
Nominees should submit a short resume and a statement (1,000 words or less) including their vision for the future of the magazine and reasons why they should be considered for the EiC role. The ACM Publications Board has convened a special search committee to review all candidates for this position.
