eLML Wins IMS Learning Impact Award 2010 Silver Medal

Zurich (CH), June 2010 - The eLML team received the silver medal at the IMS Learning Impact Awards 2010 in Long Beach, California in the category "New/Research and Development". The Learning Impact Awards are designed to recognize the most impactful use of technology worldwide in support of learning.

The eLesson Markup Language (eLML) is an open source XML framework for creating structured eLessons using XML. For easier lesson authoring, eLML, a web-based WYSIWYG Firedocs eLML editor is offered, as well as a Template Builder to create eLML template layouts without any XSLT knowledge.

Once the eLML lessons are created, they can be transformed it into many different output formats, like IMS Content Package or SCORM, various HTML templates, eBooks (ePub format), PDF, Office Document (ODF), and others. The eLML project is hosted at Sourceforge and offers all the regular tools (CVS, bugtracker, forum, etc.) that users might already be familiar with when working with Sourceforge.

In May 2010, the new eLML 6 version was launched. The highlights include the possibility to create eBooks directly from lessons, which allows users to view lessons on any popular eBook reader. eLML 6 also has a new feature for referencing and highlighting content - the new labelRef-attribute.

The new release further contains the latest updates and improvements to make eLML compatible with the YAML 3.2, the newest version currently out. The eLML to SCORM converter has further been totally rewritten and now creates SCORM 1.2 files that are compatible with all the major LMSs.
