Cisco Networking Academy Opened

Baku (Azerbaijan), November 2006 - A CISCO Networking Academy was recently opened at Baku State University with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies (ICT), UNDP, and AzRENA.



Azerbaijan's ICT Minister, Ali Abbasov, stressed the need to create such organizations engaged in preparation of personnel in the information technologies area. Abel Maharramov, rector of BSU and corresponding member of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Science, spoke of the significance of the academy in the field of education.

The Cisco Networking Academy Program is a comprehensive eLearning program that provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy. The Networking Academy delivers web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training and support, and preparation for industry standard certifications.

Launched in October 1997 with 64 educational institutions in seven states, the Networking Academy has spread to more than 150 countries. Since its inception, over 1.6 Million students have enrolled at more than 10,000 Academies located in high schools, technical schools, colleges, universities, and community-based organizations.
